Decorative Craft inside a Frame

Creating home decarations in the form of crafts can be quite relaxing for the person, and an easy activity to conduct within an art therapy session. The beautiful result, that could be displayed adds up to the fun procedure and provides great opportunities to express and create.

Here is an example:

Materials:

  • a large frame
  • lace, cut in the size of the frame
  • plastic flowers/ flower petals
  • decorative items
  • wet glue

Procedure:

  • placed the lace all around the inner part of the frame
  • cut and glued flower petals on both the outer frame and the inner part, creating a patern
  • placed and glued the items
  • carefully close the frame
  • Ready!

The current frame has a special meaning: the gun that is used has a story behind it. On a summer afternoon, some friends and me had taken a walk in the alleys of a small mountain near the area. As we strolled and chatted, one accidentally kicked a stone, and underneath it, burried within the dirt, something shone. We noticed it instantly, and shook some more dust away with our feet, only to reveal a gun barrel. Shocked by the unexpected finding, we dug slightly deeper, and brought back to surface a gun! It was very old and seemed entirely destroyed: some parts were missing and it was covered by thick layers of rust and dirt. Near that place in the mountain, there was an Italian kind of fortress during the war, and we all asumed that this is where it comes from. Yet we still do not actually know who did the gun belong to, why was it there, since when, and how many it had killed. Since it was almost entirely ruined, there was nothing better to do with it (and since leaving it back there was not an option for some reason) I took it home covered in tissues- because it felt, looked and smelled very dirty. It took quite some effort to manage and clean it- the rust never went away fully. So I dyed it silver- as I assumed it must have once been- and struggled to think what to do with it. After many thoughts (and since it is a heavy item thus not flexible) I concluded with the current decoration. I see that gun as a peculiar item, with a long unknown history, something which fascinates me, and I hope that I have changed its use by making something pretty out of it.
